PERFORMANCES
Captioned Performances
Live captioning assists people who are D/deaf or hard of hearing who benefit from reading the dialogue alongside the action. You can find information about captioned performances on individual pages for shows.
We caption our performances with Stage Text. The best seats for captioned performances will be highlighted and can be booked online by selecting these nominated seats at checkout.
If no seats are highlighted, captions will be best viewed from all seats.
BSL-Interpreted Performances
You can find information about British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted performances on individual pages for shows. The best seats for BSL-interpreted performances will be highlighted and can be booked online by selecting these nominated seats at checkout.
If no seats are highlighted, the BSL interpreter will be best viewed from all seats.
Bar
Our Space
The Yard has level access, with a flat, slightly uneven concrete floor throughout. There are no steps in our bar. We have one accessible toilet with a wide, outward-opening door.
We have two bathrooms: one containing two cubicles and the other with two urinals and two stalls. All our bathrooms are gender-neutral.
None of our doors are power-assisted.
Our bar height is 113cm, with a wheelchair-accessible section on the right-hand side, at approximately 80cm high.
Lighting
The bar area is usually dimly lit, especially at night, and we use a haze machine during club nights that further reduces visibility.
During club nights, we typically use strobing lights. The lighting setup involves colour-changing lights and moving lights, which constantly alter the atmosphere and lighting state.
Sound
Background music is played through the venue's sound system during the day and evening, at a low volume. During late nights (from 10 p.m. onwards), we have DJs playing loud music. We stock free disposable earplugs at the bar.
Safer Spaces
We work to ensure everyone feels welcome and safe at The Yard.
If you would like to raise any questions or concerns before or after an event, please email our Venue & Vistors Manager at grace@theyardtheatre.co.uk.
